We buy it, use it, and send back what isn't worth your money.
TailTestLab started with a simple annoyance: every "best dog harness" list online was clearly written by someone who had never put one on a dog. So we started buying the gear ourselves — full price, no review units, no sponsorships shaping the verdict — and testing it the way an actual pet owner would.
That means multi-week trials, not five-minute unboxings. It means logging things like ammonia buildup in bedding, GPS drift under tree cover, and whether a "chew proof" cage survives a determined hamster. If a product doesn't hold up, we say so, even when it's a popular brand.
How we test
Every review on this site is built around real, timed use — days or weeks with the product in an actual home, not a studio shot and a spec sheet. We track the same things a pet owner would notice: does it hold up, does the animal actually use it, and does the marketing claim survive contact with reality.
If we wouldn't buy it again with our own money, we don't recommend it with yours.
We support the site through affiliate links on some products — full details are in our Affiliate Disclosure — but the testing and the verdict always come first. A product doesn't get a good review because it pays a better commission.
