Traditional wireless fences use a buried perimeter wire; GPS-based systems like the Halo Collar draw the boundary in an app instead, which is faster to set up but depends entirely on satellite accuracy holding steady. We mapped a roughly half-acre yard and tested boundary consistency across two weeks of daily use.
GPS drift is the real risk with this category, and we did see the boundary line wander by a few feet under heavy tree cover on the yard's north side — enough that we widened the buffer zone there manually. In open sky conditions, the boundary held tight and corrections triggered exactly where drawn.
It's not a replacement for a physical fence around a busy road. It's a very good one for a suburban yard with decent sky visibility.
A strong option for yards without existing fencing and with reasonably open sky. Heavily wooded properties should expect to compensate for drift with a wider safety buffer.
