The black KONG Extreme is the densest rubber in KONG's classic line, marketed specifically at dogs that destroy the standard red version in a single sitting. We handed a size-large Extreme to a 60-lb mixed-breed with a well-documented habit of shredding anything softer within twenty minutes.
It survived. Not unscathed — there's a visible tooth-groove pattern after three weeks of daily sessions — but no chunks came off, and the hollow center kept its shape well enough to still hold peanut butter and freeze solid for the slow-lick version of the game.
This is the only chew toy in our rotation that our test dog hasn't opened up like a present.
Worth the upgrade over the standard red KONG for any dog that's already destroyed one. Skip it for puppies still building bite strength — the classic version is the better starting point.
